ORANGEVILLE, Utah (KUTV) — A Red Cross shelter was opened Saturday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building on Main Street in Orangeville after severe flooding prompted evacuations, according to the Emery County Sheriff’s Office.
Evacuated residents can check in at the shelter, the sheriff’s office said.
Emergency crews, public works personnel and Emery County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue members were responding to flooding issues Saturday afternoon.
The sheriff’s office said it would announce sandbag distribution locations as more storms are forecast in the coming days.
A Flash Flood Warning was also issued near Bryce Canyon National Park in Kane County.
The warning was in effect for parts of southern Utah until 10:45 p.m. Saturday.
The warning area included locations north of Kanab and south of Bryce Canyon National Park, according to the National Weather Service.
Residents were urged to move to higher ground and avoid walking or driving through floodwaters.
The National Weather Service also issued a flash flood warning for the Big Water area in southern Utah through 10:45 p.m. Saturday.
The warning includes portions of Kane County near Big Water. Forecasters urged people to move to higher ground and avoid walking or driving through floodwaters.
